Sometimes when I nurse dd she would stick her thumb in and try to nurse and suck her thumb at the same time. It was cute and all but for some reason it really hurt. So what I started to do is I would grab her hand and I would say "You take the boob, I'll take the thumb" and I would start sucking her thumb. She thought it was the funniest thing, she would really crack up. Now when she is in a playful mood she puts her thumb up and wants me to suck her thumb as she nurses.......

I tell ds he has to pick one or the other (boob or thumb) but he can't have both at once

dd recently started going back and forth between the boob and the thumb. It's so cute. I can hear her thought process "hmmm... if I suck on this thing, no milk comes out, this one, milk!! fascinating!!"

my son is only a 6 weeks old so he hasnt started anything like that...YET! BUT he does try to put his hand there and take that instead sometimes when he pulls away. he did do the CUTEST this to me this morning. When i was nursing him he *tooted* and when i asked him "did you tooted on mummy?" she just smile and did a little giggle just like he was thinking "oh you know i did."

When my ds was teething, he'd nurse for a minute, then pick his foot up & chew on his toes, nurse, toes, nurse, toes. It was too cute.

With my dd, it's her index finger. She still does it at almost 15 months. She puts her index finger in her mouth while she's nursing and crushes my nipple against her teeth. Ouch! I'm glad you found a solution to the problem.
