Maybe you will, but I'm shocked! We are moving in a couple weeks and decided to go with the company's offer of temporary housing, since I feel it is too much to try to do a full move before the baby comes. Well, dh came home last night telling me that while we living in the temporary housing *they are going to pay the grocery bills, utilities and for gasoline!* I've never heard of such nonsense! They are going to buy our groceries?! And there is a Whole Foods in town - alright! I'm blown away...

Sweet!!

So how long can you stay in this "temporary" housing? I am thinking it will be tough for you to move with little ones too. Or school age kids. Or teenagers. And of course, it is so hard on college kids if you move from the house where they grew up...

Well, we get to stay for 2 months. But we are negotiating for 3 since I will need a little time after the baby is born - so hopefully Sept-Nov. Quite a deal and the relocation person said some companies even due more than this - hard to imagine!

What company is this? Do they hire people who work in electronics or the poly-sci field?? :

Some of the expenses your company covers will be considered taxable income, so just be careful with the bookkeeping and set aside a little extra money for paying your taxes because they won't be taking the taxes out of your reimbursement checks.

My company paid for my move, they covered the moving expenses, the difference between my old rent and the cost of temporary corporate housing, and food (though not household items). It was great and really made the move easier.

Oooh, good point! I hadn't even thought of that. See, this is why I am married to an accountant!

Of course, you will have that nifty extra deduction at the end of the year, too....

That's good to know - thanks!

ETA: ooo... just told dh and he told me the company is grossing up the expenses, so we won't be paying taxes on them. That's really nice for stuff like the sign on bonus. With his first job the gov took an insane amount, but this company grosses up so that we get the full month's salary. I like these people
