my dd is 3 months, so it's an evolving thing. she started going to bed at 7:30when she was 3 weeks old, she's a really good sleeper. if we're out, we try to be home by 6-6:30.
lights used to get turned down, but now the sun's still up! we nurse, she gets changed into her nighttime diaper , pj's and sleepsack.
she has a stuffed flower on her changing table that was the first thing she started babbling to this past week, so we say goodnight to flower. she smiles every time flower "kisses" her, mama helps with the kissy sound effects.
she gets snuggled by mama and dh, and one of us puts her in her sidecar, on her side, to cure the bald spot paranoid mama made in the beginning, being afraid to let her not sleep on her back. i sing the made up songs my mama invented for me, and then she has a nature/music noise thingy attached to her co-sleeper, and she sleeps to cricket sounds. so does mama when she goes to sleep!
there's definitely lots of being read to in her future bedtime ritual. and we tell the moon goodnight when amma nurses later in the night and she's outside the window. i tell her the moon's keeping an eye on her, she was born within minutes of the february snow moon/hunger moon, so i'll tell amma she's her special night-time friend for sure!
