How large was your wedding? Don't know how many folks actually came, it was pretty big, a pigroast/potluck outdoorsy event.

Where was the ceremony/ reception? ceremony by our pond; reception about 300 feet from the pond

Who married you? my husband you silly goose!!!! If you mean who preformed the ceremony? Local funeral director, we were dying to get married Seroiusly, he is the funeral director, but also a JP, the other JP in town is/was the barber, his busiest day was Saturday, he did offer for us to have the ceremony in his shop though.

Why did you do it? Because I knew I wanted to always be with my hubby, We wanted a ceremony.

What did you wear? real wedding gown that was passed on to me from a lady my mom worked for, it was her daughters who had gotten divorced years before yet the mom could not part with the dress. (the daughter did not want it after the divorce or years later when it came to me) Hubby wore his one and only suit.

The fairy tale part of our wedding was that my hubby came riding up on our old white mule and I came up in a horse drawn carrige.

Ooh, fun!

My wedding was about a hundred and fifty guests. Three bridesmaids, three groomsmen, NO flower girl. No pretty little one was going to steal my thunder on my special day. Lots of kids invited to the wedding and reception, though.

Our wedding was in New Hampshire, at a little place with a gazebo on a lake. We were married outside in front of the gazebo (lucky for us, we got the ceremony in right before the pouring rain started!) and then went right inside for the reception at the same place. It was lovely.

We were married by a Justice of the Peace we chose at random, as we aren't religious. He was really fantastic, and made me almost wish I'd hired a videographer so I could see his remarks again.

We did traditional formal garb--DH wore a tux and I wore a Cinderella-type gown, veil, heels, fake nails, the whole shebang. I'm not a super dress-up kind of person, but when I tried on the dress my mom got all teary so I decided that would be the one.

Why did I do it? Because I was in love, silly! DH and I met when I was sixteen years old, started dating when I was nineteen, and were married when I was twenty-two. Would've been sooner, but I was getting my Master's degree, in preparation for staying at home with kids the rest of my life. Really, though, DH and I always thought we'd end up together. When I met him, he was too old for me (23, when I was 16.... seemed like a really big deal). Soon after we met (working together waiting tables), he spoke with a close friend of his and said "If I were a few years younger, I'd ask her out. If she were a few years older, I'd ask her to marry me." And he was true to his word.

How large was your wedding?

My parents, DH's parents and his brother.

Where was the ceremony/ reception?

Downtown at a cute little house/chapel.

Who married you?

Just a local officiant, no one special as we aren't religious.

Why did you do it?

Why did I marry? Or why did we do the wedding the way we did? Obviously the first question is because we wanted to marry as we love one another. As to the second question, we wanted something small and easy (ie NOT stressful).

What did you wear?

A dress my mother had found. She offered to pay for it. I now regret it as I really didn't like the dress but felt pressured to go along with her choice, since she was paying for it.

How large was your wedding?
uhm, there was about 100 in attendance. My wedding party was 5 girls, 5 guys, and a flower girl and ring bearer.

Where was the ceremony/ reception?
In the church I grew up in. The reception was in the church hall. Long story, but it was supposed to have been in a really fancy schmancy hotel ballroom. But I guess no one wants to go to a wedding 4 days before Christmas! Because when we had less than 50 RSVP and we had to pay for 100 plates minimum we decided to lose our deposit (saved us money) and go with cheap catering and have it right at the church.

Who married you?
The Youth Pastor at my church. After all, at 20, he was the minister I knew best!

Why did you do it?
I got married b/c I thought he was the man I wanted to be with for the rest of my life.

What did you wear?
Traditional Cinderella style gown. I refused to wear white so it was a lovely champagne/off white gown. It looks white in all the photo's until you see pictures of me against something stark white, then you realize it's off white. LOL.

All in all I had a cookie cutter wedding and looking back it wasn't all I thought it was cracked up to be. It was a huge amount of stress and not worth it, IMO. To do over again, we would have had just a few people there and got hitched on a beach or someplace different. Although I did have a lovely "rose ceremony" that my hubby and I still use in our marriage.

Ooh these are so fun to read. Keep them coming!
Also when I ask " Why did you do it?" I am referring to your reason for marriage. I know love will be the answer for most, but maybe there are some others out there (ie legal, timing, pregnancy), or maybe a combo!

50 people in total -- three bridesmaids, three groomsmen, one flower girl, two ringbearers.

The ceremony was at the Catholic church where dh had attended all his life. The reception was at the classiest hotel in town, in one of the smaller banquet rooms.

The Catholic priest married us. He had known dh for many years.

I was in love with dh.

I wore a traditional white gown with long train and veil.

we got married in kentucky at cumberland falls, dh found the place and we picked it b/c its one of only two places where a moonbow (a rainbow at night over the falls) occurs.

a retired judge performed the ceremony. we found him by making a few phone calls.

it was just us and some really nice people who were visiting the falls were our witnesses. it was actually the first time we left our son for an extended trip. he was a year and a half and my pump crapped out on me so i ended up getting one at wal-mart just cuse it was dcheap and i liked it so much better than the one i had been using.........

we had the adventure of an elopement and none of the hassle of a big weddinbg and i love how we did it..........although it was planned not really an elopement, but we did throw it together pretty quick once we picked a date

i did wear a wedding dress also given by a friend who divoced soon after using it........and a veil made from a tierra kind of thing that my aunt used in her first wedding my gradmother made the veil-y part of it and kurt sewed some red rosebuds omn to it

my mom and my fil bought kurt a suit to wear

we got maried because we love each other but also i suppose in part to legitimitize our son, to formalize kurts relationship with my daughter, to legitimitize our relationship in the eyes of the world including especially our families and because it was the right thing to do morally speaking..........

We invited around 150 people so maybe 120 came. We had 6 bridemaids and 5 groomsmen. The little kids in our life were too young to be in the wedding.

We got married at the church I grew up in. The priest who married us was our priest there for years, went to high school with my grandpa, and knew my mom growing up. He was retired but came to do it for us.

The reception was on a paddleboat on the Mississippi River.

We got married for love, but we got married younger than I planned because DH was (is) in the Marines.

I wore a white dress with a long train, a veil, kind of boring shoes (but comfy!), and some jewelry DH gave me.

2nd marriage for both of us, and we're really casual people anyway, if that explains anything!

I think there were maybe 85 people there? We didn't do any RSVP, since for a potluck event you don't need to know the numbers in advance.

We did everything in our backyard. We rented tents for the back end of the yard and put tables there, then more tables on the covered patio. We set the food out on the patio, too, and a friend kept the grill cooking chicken and burgers all day.

The pastor of our church married us. We stood in front of him in the middle of the grass and all the guests just kind of gathered around. My folks and his folks stood behind us and held the kids so they could see and hear everything.

Why? Tax benefits, of course. If we hadn't needed the financial benefits of legal marriage, we wouldn't have done it until marriage rights were extended to all who wish to marry.

What did I wear? RED! Best decision of my life because it caused my mother to call me a trollop, a strumpet, and a woman of ill repute. Who'd want to miss all of those endearing words? Still cracks me up. My mom doesn't think any of those things of me, but she's just old and old-fashioned enough to think that others might get that idea. Like who? My grandpa, maybe, but no one else.

It was an unconventional wedding that suited us perfectly. We're casual people, always more concerned with having our people around us than with having the "right" setting, clothing, stuff, etc.

How large was your wedding? about 50 people and one dog and a cat. Wedding party- 3 bridesmaids, 3 groomsmen, 1 flower girl, and 1 flower boy (the rings were on the alter).

Where was the ceremony/ reception? In our backyard where we lived/the house DH grew up in (we were renting from MIL).. a lovely .5 acre against the mountainside

Who married you? A Pagan Priestess, it was a handfasting

We eloped so it was just me and him and the guy who performed the ceremony.
It was in a little mobile home in Goose Creek ,SC (outside of Charleston). It was soo hot that day and the little old man spent a good amount of time chattering at us and getting us comfortable and asked if we wanted to go outside to the pretty gazebo or stay inside in the A/C.
He was a justice of the peace.
We had been talking about it for years ( we've been together since we were 19) and then he joined the Navy and I was having a hard time finding a summer job ( I worked for the school system) and my refrigerator kept dying and he kept telling me I might as well marry him sooner so that we could spend more time together since he had several months of training to do.I finally gave in with the plan of having the big family thing later. That was the most time we spent together until last year so it was about 5 years of long distance marriage.
I wore a hot pink dress with white trim and blue flowers and white sandals I had gotten at Charlotte Ruse. Its still cute and I still can fit into it.He wore a pair of pants and a cream colored golf shirt that I made him buy because I refused to marry a guy in uniform. We bought some 5 dollar rings at Sears that were supposed to be silver but turned our fingers green as time passed.
Afterwards we went to Patriot's Point and toured the sub and carrier and had dinner at Bubba Gump's, not so romantic but he was still limited to where and how long he could be gone.

How large was your wedding?
2 bridesmaids, 1 groomsman, 1 groomsmaid, about 100 guests, give or take.

Where was the ceremony/ reception?
The church where I grew up. It was in the town we were both living in at the time we got engaged and hubby was still working down there when we got married.

Who married you?
The pastor of the church. I would've preferred the other minister, but that's because of the pastor's politics that I didn't agree with, among other things. Eh, whatever.

Why did you do it?
Because I wanted to get married to hubby. I didn't know/think any better about having a church wedding. If I'd really thought it through or something, we may have been happier with a destination wedding with fewer eyes on us. But the whole goal of the day was to get married to hubby, so I didn't really care much about the hiccups we had that day like the wedding cake that looked absolutely nothing like I ordered or that my hair didn't cooperate or that none of our outdoor photos turned out or MIL on her knees cleaning up hubby's tux pants when he bumped into the cake (yes, I though it was odd at the time, too), that we forgot the special bride/groom toasting glasses and cake cutters at our new apartment an hour away, etc. Semi-amusing stories is what I call it. So I just don't get the whole bridezilla thing, but that's just me.

What did you wear?
A used wedding dress I got off ebay back in 2000 or 2001 when I'd been engaged before. Given more time and money I might've gotten a different one that looked way better on me, but again, eh. I was more concerned with the marriage than the single day.

10 people at the ceremony, 60 people at the reception.

Where was the ceremony/ reception?

The ceremony was at the magistrate's office of our then hometown (we do not belong to any church), the reception was by the seashore at a local rowing club clubhouse.

Who married you?

The official at the magistrate.

Why did you do it?

The usual reasons. Wanted to "make it official". Also, we were moving abroad, and thought that the bureaucracy would be easier if we were already married.

What did you wear?

My DH wore white tie, with the tailcoat and all, and I had a red and white wedding dress which was made by my best friend.
