I feel fat and irritable with this. Oh and extremely exhausted. I hate this medicine. Is there anything else out there thats safe for breastfeeding? I even considered the mini-pill even though I don't need it (had my tubes tied with my CS in May).

How long have you been on it and what dose? I found that the worst of the side effects passed after several weeks. I took it at night until the side effects passed and then switched to morning.

There are other meds that are safe for nursing. Talk to your therapist or your psychiatrist. It is important to slowly wean IF you are going to do so, and you have to be clear of the old med for 2 weeks or something like that before you start a new one.

It's fine to switch. Just talk to your psychiatrist or therapist about it in detail first.

I was on 50mg since end of May. Then this past month I have been on 100mg. I feel so tired all the time. I am wondering if its because of the sleepiness thats why I feel so bad and not PPD. I did try at night and it made me really tired and sluggish first thing in the morning. I can't be sleepy at night I have a nursing 5 1/2 month old.

I'm going to call the OB/GYN today. Thats who prescribed it.

It could just be that the 100 mg is too much for you, or that your body is still getting used to it. It takes about 6 weeks for that sleepiness to go away. Why, can I ask, did you go up from 50 mg?

I really think if you can stick it out, you should try for another couple of weeks. Then you can go down if you are still really tired. Dosage adjustments can do weird things.

You really should get a pdoc, and not rely on your OB to prescribe the meds. They do not know much at all about how the meds work and what to look out for.

You could try Lexapro - higher cost but fewer side effects.

I would go see a psychiatrist. I think it's very important when taking an ssri to speak to a specialist. Also, you should have your thyroid checked..even if you've had it checked before because it often fluctuates in the postpartum months. I wouldn't change anything yet without seeing a psychiatrist.

If you've tolerated the medication, then maybe a psychiatrist might have some other suggestions rather then switching all together. That said, I take Celexa and I'm breastfeeding.

I hope your feeling better soon,
