It teaches about different kinds of animals. It's mainly regular people, not cartoon..except for Zaboomafoo. My dd watches it once in awhile. Noggin & PBS Sprout are pretty much the only stations I allow her to watch, because they're commerical free.
My oldest loved Zaboomafoo when he was a toddler and now my youngest loves it too. He got into it by watching an old tape we had. It is not on our pbs station anymore and we don't get noggin, so we found a dvd on Amazon for him for Christmas. He loves it!

I think the kids love it because of the animals and because Martin and Chris are silly.
My dd got into zaboomafoo first and now my ds adores it. i have a 6 hour tape full and he will sit and watch it forever if i let him. He really likes when they sing and dance.
We occasionally see it on PBS. It's one of those mama shows, they know we'll let the kids watch it, because the two guys are so hot!!

one of my all time favorite kids shows and I am picky. you should watch withthem. Those kratt brothers are YUMMY! They also have a show for the slightly older set called Kratts Creatures. I believe they actualy have PHDs in thier fields. (I am thinking zoo-ology but that just looks silly).

We like Zaboomafoo here. Zaboomofoo is a lemur from Madagascar and he's a real lemur in the beginning then after he eats a snack, he spins around and is played a very well-done and realistic puppet who talks with the Kratt brothers.

DD loves animals so it's one of her favorites. The guys are definitely very silly (they usually end up covered with mud at some point each episode) but they are very informative. I've actually learned a few things from watching the show with DD.

They also focus on fair treatment of animals which I like with a focus of keeping wild animals in the wild and back with their moms so they can nurse. The segments with "Zabooland" are claymation and personally I think they're very annoying, but DD thinks it'se funny and the creatures always learn to use cooperation and to appreciate differences and such so the lessons are at least good.

I'd give'em 4.5 stars out of five (a half point off only because of the claymation part).

DS is VERY picky about what he watches, and Zooboomafoo is in fact, the only PBS show he wishes to watch on a regular basis, and asks me to remind him about. Since we turned the TV on at age 2 1/2, it's been this way. He usually watches it 3 to 4 times a week. DH and I enjoy it too. In fact, DH and I were known to watch the show on occasion BEFORE we had DS.
I think it's a rather smart and also funny show. The hosts fit that description as well.

DS likes details and he apprecaites when a show stays "on topic" for the entire show. The claymation shorts are silly, but cute, but DS truly appreciates all the animal action and facts he receives. He LOVES Chris and Martin, "Oh, Chris and Martin! They are soooo silly!"
Of course, this also meant that the other night while eating dinner he stuck an icecube down my back to which I had to reply, "Just because Chris and Martin were doing in on the Arctic Theme show, doesn't mean you can upset my dinner!"

The best,
Em

We used to love Zaboomafoo. Dd has now outgrown it. I liked the way that they showed respect for ALL creatures. None were cast as villians - such as a "Big Bad" wolf - but instead each is unique and special.

OT: I kept waiting for the religious right to get on the show's case about Chris and Martin "going to the closet" (when they are singing about getting ready for a trip to visit animals). I mean, that was clearly a reference to them being homosexuals, right? Just like (on Teletubbies) Tinky Winky's purse was an indication of his orientation?

j/k
Me and you and Zaboomafoo-oo-oo!

Sorry! I used to watch this show years ago with a little girl I babysat. She beyond loved this show and I just happened to see it on as I was scrolling through the channels. If DS ever takes a liking to TV I'll definitely put on that show. It's so sweet.

Alright, I couldn't resist looking up some bio info on these guys!

Martin Kratt:

"Birthday: December 23, 1965

Age: He's lived through over 30 generations of short-tailed shrews. They only live for about 1 year!

Hometown: Grew up in New Jersey, where lots of deer, raccoons, opossums, crickets and red-tailed hawks grew up too. Don't believe what you hear about New Jersey. It's not all highways!

Education: B.S. Zoology, Duke University. Completed hands-on, interactive study of animal defenses. Remember the Great Defender's show? He smelled like a skunk for one week after that.

Favorite Outdoor Sport: Scuba Diving"

Chris Kratt:

"Chris Kratt graduated from Carleton College, Minnesota in 1992 with a B.A. in Biology. In 1990 Chris was the recipient of a prestigious Thomas J. Watson Fellowship for study abroad. Chris is a founder of Kratt Brothers' Creature Heroes, a nonprofit society dedicated to enabling children to help the wild animals of the world. Chris is also the founder of the Carleton Organization for Biodiversity; a group working to increase public awareness about conservation and wildlife. In 1999, Chris was given the Award of Appreciation for his on-going commitment and public service on behalf of conservation and environmental education by US Secretary of the Interior, Bruce Babbitt."

I also ran across a reference to a spouse named Tania for Chris, so I'm really not sure about the whole closet theory. And Martin is married to a Laura and has 2 kids, so definitely nothing there!

Oh, I was just joking. You know, being "in the closet" about homosexuality, and the Kratt brothers always singing about "going to the closet". It made as much sense as the controversy about Tinky Winky having a purse (which was happening about the time we were watching Zaboomafoo years ago). Just seemed like something the religious right would find objectionable that seemed perfectly innocent to most of the rest of us.

We love this show! My childrens favorite subjects to learn about center around animals and watching this show helps them learn more facts in a fun way, and gives them ideas for more animals to look up information about. They really dig watching the animals and learning about them. And the Kratt brothers are entertaining enough that even my youngest two are fascinated by the show. Does anyone know if episodes are available on dvd?
It WAS on PBS here but now it's not on anymore.
DD loved this show.
