I have no idea on the iron thing, but could you be dehydrated? I mean, ice is water after all--maybe you need more fluids!

I wish I was craving ice. Then I wouldn't be tempted by Reese's Pieces.......banana nut muffins....cheesecake.....or you know, anything with sugar. LOL.

I HATE chewing ice except when I am pregnant and in my 3rd trimester. My iron has always been fine. I am actually chewing on ice right now. The only thing I am looking foward too going to the hospital to birth this baby is they have the best cruched ice ever!!

Being a total mother hen here, but be careful with the ice if you are prone to dental problems - chewing ice is a great way to crack a molar and need emergency dental work, and pregnant women seem to have more troubles with their teeth than non-pregnant people.

Low iron can cause craving ice. I would try to take some supplements or cook a big lentil dinner and see if that can calm your craving.

I know my iron is low and I have been craving "cold" my whole pregnancy (complete opposite of normal). Everything I drink has ice in it and most likely has spent some time in the freezer too! I am not chomping on ice, but I gotta have it

I crave ice whenever my iron level are off. It has been when they are too low and too high. I craved ice with DD1. I tested low in iron, started supplements, and the craving went totally away. I had no issues until I was pregnant with DD2. I had my levels checked and it was through the roof. I had to stop my prenatal completely. My craving for ice stopped again.

Pica (the craving of non-nutritional substances) can be a sign of anemia, but it doesn't always mean that. I would have your iron levels checked just be to sure.
