Harvest Time or Snails Pace Race?

I'm trying to decide between one of these for DS's third birthday. He'll likely be playing with us, as well as with his preschool age friends. Is Harvest Time a game that the children will be able to manage on their own? I'm leaning towards that one, but will choose Snails Pace Race if it is better suited to children playing together without the aide of adults.

We don't have Harvest Time but we do have Orchard (haba) and Snail's Pace Race. Orchard has been more enjoyable over the years. One of my kids really doesn't have much interest in Snail's Pace Race and neither did/does my nephew. The other likes it. But as a parent I find other games more enjoyable and my kids do too.

Which games do you find more enjoyable?

We really enjoyed Orchard at that age. It was the favorite.
Others that were hits then were zingo and cariboo. One kiddo really liked sequence (as did other kids I know of) but his twin didn't have the interest. Hullabaloo was another fun one but it's more of an activity game.
I would pick Orchard if you don't have it. It's fun even for an adult, simple enough, yet interesting to hold interest for short attention spans.
Harvest may be great. I just don't have that.

I think the age you can play games and the types of games depend largely on the attention span and interest of the child. In general fast paced games that are simple are better for younger ages.

OP, ok then of those two I vote Orchard because it's just a great game. If you are just looking for something that a group of kids can play together snail pace is the simpler of the two. But less interesting and didn't hold the interest of a couple of toddlers I know of at least. My other kid would play any game and liked it. It is quick though and simple which is good for that age.

I'd vote for Orchard. I bought it for one of my students and he and his sister and I have played it over several years. I enjoy playing the game, and because of the way the board and game are structured (physically, pieces, the ideas, etc.) you can create a whole variety of games using the materials, depending on the age/maturity of those playing, and how many people are playing.

Although it's not for as young children as Snail's Pace, it will grow with them over quite a few years, as opposed to the race, which is really for young kids.
