How soon after birth did you take your Little one to the Pediatrician?

When I had my homebirth three years ago the first time I took her to the doctor she was sick and not getting better with over the counter remedies. I think she was around 4 months old.
I am now a senior midwife student and most of the mothers we see do not take their baby in until they need to. If your midwife will do newborn exams there is no need to take the baby in unless she thinks there is something wrong.

We took him in today (one week after his birth) and are going back next week to complete the hearing test. We won't be returning after next week, though. I just wanted to establish a patient relationship with a pediatrician in case of emergencies and because we are not vaccinating.

I want to say three months with my first. My midwife followed us for awhile after the birth and he was a happy, healthy chunky guy.
My daughter was also happy, healthy and chunky but the midwife did the newborn screening test and it came back with a thyroid condition. So we had to take her in and she had a scan, etc... turns out her thyroid never dropped to her throat but it's still functioning. Otherwise she wouldn't have gone in either.

Although I thought my MWs did a good newborn exam, I still wanted DS seen by a ped pretty immediately after birth. I had him on a Friday and I think we went on Monday.

IMO, it's a good idea to have them checked over, just in case there's anything amiss that you might not see. Heart defects are pretty common, for instance, and it's very possible that MW might never have encountered a baby with one. I do think many MWs can and do catch things, but let's face it, it isn't their specialty.

I may be biased because I have two kids with health problems.

We went at three weeks, but only b/c our MW had suspected that our LO had an esophogeal atresia, and although the situation resolved itself, his initial feeding problems concerned her and she STRONGLY URGED us to take him in to a pedi she recommends (non-vax friendly). If it hadn't been for that, though, we would have just taken him to our GP when he got sick, and eschewed a pedi altogether.
