Kool-Aid dyeing - pretty purple color?

I've been having a lot of fun kool-aid dyeing wool and making soakers and longies for dd#2. The colors are bright and vibrant. However, I've not been able to make a pretty purple color. My purple (grape) turns out kind of dull and lifeless. Has anyone experimented with mixing colors together to form a different color? (red+blue = purple?) I've seen pretty purples on ebay so I know it can be done, I just don't know how (yet). I would love to make a lavender colored soaker for dd#2. Any ideas?

I knitted a soaker for DS in a natural colored yarn. Was too beige for me, so I decided to dye it. I used one package of grape koolaid in one mason jar almost full of water. It turned out a nice light purple/lavender. I wanted something a little darker, but only had the one pack of koolaid, so it's too light for me. What I am trying to say (not very successfully!) is that maybe you could use less koolaid than normal. Good luck and have fun!!

I've had the same problem. Purple is my favorite color and I just can't get a nice shade. The resulting color from grape Kool Aid is yucky. WHenever I've mixed red and blue, I've also gotten a yucky color, no matter what the proportion of red:blue is. Someone on another list said that there is another flavor of Kool Aid that is pruple and makes a really nice shade. I scoured the grocery store and found another in a purple packet (it was some "magic" color changing one) and it made another color completely - not purple. I've also tried Wilton icing colors since I can get a great purple icing with them. Unfortunately when you mix the purple gel with water, the resulting color is blue
