Dh asked me this....and i have no clue!! (mods i am putting this here cause i feel its about myself and my relationship with dh and how different things are for us).

When I wonder what I want I keep thinking about stuff for the house, the kids and other stuff thats not for ME! Dh on the other hand knows exactly what he wants (tools

). Its funny (well kinda) cause he works 70+ hours a week and hardly has any time and I a at least at home to do stuff but work just as much or more but have no real interests or time to have interest in anything. Makes me feel pretty cruddy honestly.

So do you feel that you have any YOU interests, qualities or that when someone asks you what you want for bday/christmas/general gifts you always think of something "useful"?

I usually ask for books of some kind.

If there's anything I'm even remotely interested in learning, I mention it at Christmas. DH got me a bunch of furniture refinishing stuff a couple of years ago, and I had fun fixing up a stool. Last year, he got me a scrapbooking program, which I've been using to make custom cards for people. He also got me a coffee press so I don't have to worry about filters, anymore.

This year - I don't really care. Maybe some make-up, because I don't have any, and once in a while I feel like wearing some. I never know what I want for Christmas, but I always get great stuff.

That all sounds pretty good....although I already know I'm getting chocolate. DH goes to the good chocolatier around here and gets me a box every Christmas. I'm trying to cut back on chocolate...but not on those chocolates!

Um, is jewelry considered "useful"?

I usually ask for yarn, knitting/crocheting tools, books on feminism or parenting, something by Steven King, clothing (sweaters) or gift cards to Lowe's or Home Depot.

Mark doesn't care what he gets as long as it has a front and back cover.

We both want the books Lies Across America and Lies My Teacher Told Me

Well, I'd like to finally build the greenhouse I've been wanting. However, I work in a seasonal business and it's slow right now. We decided we're getting gifts for DD and that's it. We're paying our bills, but we don't have anything extra, if you KWIM.

I'm sure my husband would like the WOW expansion pack.

i thought about getting a nice necklace but i can wait another year so dd isn't pulling on it all the time. last year he got me a $1k braclet (that i LOVE) but can't wear cause i am afraid the kids will break it or i will loose it.

tonight i went to go get dinner (the first not having the kids in like forever...!!) and i am thinking about getting a tatoo and going out dancing with friends, no kids, no worries, no cerfew, no pumping!! just ME!! and i have always wanted a tatoo but just don't know of what!!

I have no idea what I want and my husband, parents and inlaws all keep asking! Oh the pressure!
Image
: Seriously, I have everything I want/need and I've been on a major cleaning kick and trying to eliminate the clutter that somehow acculmulates. I wish somebody would take my daughters to the pottery studio and have them paint something for me.

Now you really have me thinking.

I would like another pair of jeans (I only have two pairs and one has worn out in the thighs

).
A cool shirt (which would be anything that isn't polyester or has spit up on it
Image
).
A second nursing bra.
I would like to go get my hair trimmed since it's been almost 10 months since the last time.
Everything else I want is for the kids.

DH is dying because what I really and truly want is a scumbuster and/or dustbuster. Every ad mocks men who buy their wives small appliances and tells them how much trouble they will be in, but it really is what I want! We just bought a new couch yesterday and agreed that it would be our gift to each other. Then again we are the couple that bought each other a Hoover floormate for our wedding anniversary. What can I say, we are practical and lazy

DH always gets me jewelry for Christmas because he knows how much I love it

Last year he got me a gorgeous peridot and diamond ring ( peridot is DS#1's birthstone ) This year I'd like to get something with Ds#2's birthstone, which is Ruby
Image
I usually get him clothing or something practical like that because if I don't, he will never get new clothes. He has more t-shirt that are 15+ years old than anyone I've ever known

I found a bed set at Traget I really want, but it is so expensive. As fate may have it I washed my bedding last night and the comforter is literally falling apart. I have had it for ages and have sewn repairs so many times that it may be time for a new one. Still this one is way more than I would like to spend.

And new dishes.

Nothing. We are going on a big trip around Christmas for a whole week and I feel that will take up any money he could use on a gift for me.

Although I would love a stationary bike.

Is there a restaurant you really love? If people keep asking, just tell them you want gift certificates for a nice dinner out.

I've just figured out tonight what I want.

DH is taking a 4-day weekend around xmas so I told him I want a 4-day holiday from my job (which is to "keep the house" in his words). 4 days of No cooking, no cleaning, no laundry, no sweeping after every meal, no dishes, no picking up toys... Basically not lifting a finger except to play with the kids and nurse the baby for 4 days (this is what he does when he's not at work so why don't I get a break from my job too?). But I told him this doesn't mean that he can leave it all for me to do on day 5. HE does it all for 4 days so I can really rest.

Wow- doesn't that sound amazing? Maybe after it he'll have a better appreciation for what I do all day.

Last year was the first year since we've been together (that would be 19 years) that I asked for jewlery. I really wanted a nice chain to wear and a nice set of earrings to match. Both my kids are older now and they are both still young enough that grand-babies are at least 10 years away if not longer so I can wear jewlery again! He got me one set that I fell in love with and then suprised me with a second diamond set in my stocking!! I guess I just had to ask! LOL!!

This year I want more gardening items...wood to build garden boxes with, gift cards to pick up soil and seeds/plants. I'm also a seamstress and just bought an embroidery machine last year so I want the extra hoops (small one and extended one) that go with my machine. Finally for fun the games "Exago" and "Frame It" since I love playing these types of games with the kids and hubby.

i also ask for 'useful' things that i want but have been unable to afford. sometimes, those align with my hobbies, work, or interests, and other times it's simply completely pragmatic (ie, i want a new dishwasher or something like this).

i don't think that there's anything wrong with this. this year, my DH and I are asking for monetary help with our move across country from our parents, and from our friends, we're asking them to hang out with us and do a pot luck over the holidays.
