I do! It's just DP and I in a small apt so we just toss them to the side of the door or prop wet ones up on towels in the winter. Depending on the size of your fam, I'd go with a basket or a bench.

We have a four shelf shoe rack right next to the door that I got a Linens N' Things. There is also a chair there so we can sit down to put our shoes on or take them off.

 

we take our shoes off in the house, not because it's like a *rule* but because we naturally like to be barefoot... other people just kind of follow our lead...

We have a small enterance that is not carpeted, but we put a nice throw rug down to the side of the front closet that kind of *anchors* the shoes... hard to explain... but it works...

 

we take our shoes off -- we have a little doormat/area-rug (2' by 3' maybe?) that we put in the hallway. It's far away from the door so that the door can open all the way, but close enough to it so that it's not in the kitchen. I'd love for it to look more organized, but right now it's just this orgy of shoes.

What we really need is some sort of babyproofing device that will keep my flip-flops out of DS's mouth

but I guess that's a whole separate thread.

 

We take our shoes off too. We have a small closet next to the front door and I have one of those shoe hang organizers. We store extra shoes there, and usually only keep shoes by the door if we are planning on going in and out during the day.

We do! Living in the country, we get so much dirt and stuff coming inside from outside. Taking off our shoes really helps(esp. since the babe thinks all little things on the floor are snacks

). We have shelfs by the door, but it ends up like a shoe pile most of the time.

 

Shoe removal is a must at our house I even ask guests to remove their shoes. After working in a nursing home and finding out the shelf life of some germs on the floor/ground I decided it was time to enforce the no shoe rule. Plus it just feels more comfortable! We bought a three tiered wire rack at Home DePot.

Everyone in Hawaii takes their shoes off before going inside of someone's home. Many people have racks outside of the house, but that wouldn't work if it is cold where you live, I guess. We have a small tile area next to our front door where the shoes pile up.

 

Same here. In Asia, it would be like a crime to walk into someone's house with shoes on. I love it! Most people have racks outside the door or a piece of furniture just for that purpose just inside.
At home in Az, we have a 3 shelf shoe rack in the garage.

Now that its warmer, dh is the WORST at taking his shoes off at the door... He just doesn't stay in or out long enough to justify tying and untying.

I'm more of lead by example sort of gal. I can't expect a miracle if I sneak around with my sandals on from time to time... I don't want to be a hypecrite

We have hard wood floors and its much better to leave shoes at the door than to scratch them up with sand and dirt from shoes.

But since we have dogs, the floors will always be dirty...

 

We take them off! I never knew people wore shoes in the house except on TV until I started spending time online. Everyone takes their shoes off here.
We just sort of fling shoes to the side. It goes with my housekeeping style. My mom has a shoe rack from ikea that she keeps shoes on at her house.

 

we (the actual family) takes them off, well dh sometimes doesn't. When DD started licking the floor I tried to make other people take their shoes off but noone listened to me. even when i told them Jewely likes to lick the floor. they said "you have two dogs and two cats why should we take our shoes off"

we just pile them next to the door. it looks really bad and there is a lot b/c it'snot just the shoes we wear often but every pair we own

We just started doing this. We have a little closet we put them in but Dh doesn't always do it. I was tired of our old place getting so dirty from shoes. I wish I had a better place to put the shoes. Someday I would like a mudroom.

 

We always had DH's kids take their shoes off at the door, but DH and I never did so reliably. Now that the boys are teenagers they wear their shoes into their rooms and take them off there, or put them on 15 minutes before going back to their mom's and then walk around the house in that time.

I keep meaning to make a huge announcement that EVERYONE will ALWAYS take their shoes off at the door and only put them on AT THE DOOR right before leaving the house. We plan on selling this house in four more years and we have carpeting in part of it, so I want to keep it looking decent. Also, with the baby coming, I'm worried about a little one crawling around on the same surface people have tracked in pesticides and tiny bits of animal poop.

The only problem is that both DH and I HAVE to wear shoes in the house, or our legs and feet start to ache. So that means taking off one pair and then putting on an "inside" pair...and we're pretty lazy.

 

We too, are supposed to have a no shoes in the house rule (I grew up this way), but my dh refuses to abide by it (he did not...of course, he also puts his dirty shoed feet up on the furniture, also acceptable where he grew up...don't get me started!).
We tried the shoe rack thing, but we always ended up tossing them in a pile by the corner....where we live now we have a small closet immediately inside the front door, so I walk in, open the clost , and "kick." I think a bench would be wonderful...but a large basket is much more up my alley-so easy that it encourages taking off your shoes, kwim?

We're the same way---we always take off our shoes and pile them up by the door. But we always have our indoor slip ons right there to put on. Works really well and helps us transition from "being out" to "being home".

 

We're usually barefoot inside the house just because it's more comfortable. We usually kick them off by the foyer, because it's on the other side of the baby gate. If we kick them off in the living room then DS (8.5 mo) will snack on them.

If I'm cleaning and will be in and out of the garage or outside then I put them on, but that's it.

 

I always take my shoes off as soon as I get in, and just kick them off in the foyer, letting them fall where they are, DH and dsister OTOH wear them at least up the stairs. DH usually takes his off while sitting on the LR couch, and usually just sticks them under the coffee talble. No basket or box. DSis ususally wears hers but she doesnt actually live here, so there's that.

 

We take ours off. We have shoe "pockets" hanging on our entry closet door.I just shudder to think of the "outside" dirt getting on my floor where my baby crawls.. i.e. car oil, pesticides, etc. Ick.

 

We take ours off as well. I even bought some shoe covers for the repairmen who have to come in. The thought of walking through oil (and who knows what else) slicked parking lots and then walking through my home and having my babies crawl around on that and then eat with their hands make me physically ill.

No shoes ever in the house.

 

We're usually barefoot. I have a Rubbermaid tote by the front door I keep ours in. We've had at other times a clothes basket and a cardboard box.

Ahh.. my sisters. We have been shoe free for 7 years, since we moved here. I really can't understand wearing shoes in your house. Why? Why would you want to track all that in? Shudder.

We have practically no carpet downstairs and I mop every day so shoes on the tile or wood floor don't bother me but shoes on the carpet drive me crazy. When I went into labor I told dh to make sure to get the midwives shoes when they came in, lol.
