Hello everyone. This is my first post here.I'm feeling really worried about my 1-year-old daughter's eye contact and social skills. I don't know what's normal anymore. I'm just going to list out what she does and what I'm worried about.
The things she does that seem good:
· She makes eye contact with me during play, but she shifts attention quickly between me and her toys.
· She looks back at me while she's cruising or standing, like she's checking in.
· She looks at me and other family members during fun activities, like dancing.
· She looks at me for reassurance before touching something she knows is a "no."like the stairs and some items.
· She makes eye contact with me from across the room.
· She points at things and looks at me so I will name them.
· She shows me her toys and hands them to me when she wants.
· She looks at me when she does something she's proud of.
· She responds to her name, even when she's busy playing.
· She starts games like peekaboo and chase.
· She looks back to make sure I'm following her when we play chase.
· She babbles, smiles, and tries to imitate sounds and actions with me.
· She comes to me to be picked up and follows me around.
· She gets upset when I leave the room.
· She understands commands like "sit down" and "come here."
The things I'm worried about:
· She doesn't keep eye contact for a long time. If I get in her face, she looks away after 2-3 seconds.
· She doesn't always look at people when they talk to her, especially if something else is more interesting.
· She is quiet and doesn't really engage with strangers or in new places.
· She doesn't always wave or copy someone when they ask her to.
· She doesn't always give a toy to someone when they ask.
.when I put her on my lap for playing or talking she would look for 3-5seconds then she will move.
I notice she makes more eye contact with me than others, but she still turns her head, especially if I'm too close. From farther away, like when she's on her high chair or laying on her back she looks at me a lot. She's always shifting her attention from me to something else. I just don't know what good eye contact is for a one-year-old.
Thank you for reading. Please, can you share your stories? If your toddler was like this, please tell me about it. I would love to hear your stories or just be reminded that what I'm seeing is normal toddler behavior.
