I've got major pg brain and can't think straight now...if I'm knitting a wee hat for a wee one, how big of a circumference should I make it?

Update:
Finished - thanks to the mamas here! Pictures in post 12

River had a head circumference of 16" at 6 weeks, which was on the 75th centile so many babies will be somewhat smaller. BUT brand new babies tend to have smaller heads because of the mouldings. It depends if you want something tiny and perfect that fits right away, or something she'll grow into. (I favour shopbought cotton ones for tiny and perfect, and growing room in handknits)

Any help?

perfect! i made this one about 14"....should fit(ish) as a newbie and stretch a bit as Poppy grows. Any idea on how tall I should make it? This is the problem when you fly off without a pattern....

I'm using scraps from a sweater - so it's 4ply cashmerino. soooo soft!

I usually go 14-15 inches. that will be big on newborn (14" seems average) but will stretch to fit for quite a while.
