Chances of being pregnant?

I'm posting this for my sister..

She's done two urine pregnancy tests. One was positive, the other was negative. Her period is a week late, so she had a blood test done and they said it was negative. However, she still hasn't gotten her period.

What are the chances that the lab is wrong? I always thought it was EXTREMELY rare to have a false positive, but much more common to have false negatives.

Oh, I hope she's preggers. Someone tell me there's still a chance!!

She needs to find out if the lab did a quantitive pregnancy test or a qualitive test. A quantitive test will give you an exact number, a qualitive test will just give a yes/no reading and isn't nessicarly accurate.

Do you know what brand of test she took? That would help a lot.

Which one came first, the positive urine or the negative? If the negative came first, it could have just been too early. And the blood test could be wrong.

Sometimes a "false positive" is an early missed miscarriage, so the person really was pregnant for the first test, but was no longer pregnant for a later test. So it is possible to get a positive and then not be pregnant.

I hope it's good news for your sister!

She works for a hospital so she brought a few tests home from the ER and did them at home.

I think she did them together, but I'm not sure. And when I talked to her yesterday she said they didn't do a blod test, just another urine test.

: And, she said it was the same test as she got from the hospital, so they're all the same brand I guess.

She still hasn't gotten her period so she said she'll retest in a few days.
