Do I really need a diaper pail?

Getting ready to CD and am getting 2 x-large bummies wet bags. Do I really need a diaper pail or can I just lay the bag on the floor of the laundry room? Do the pails really help keep any smell out? Thanks!

I sometimes use a wet pail for prefolds...but I must say, lately I've been getting lazy and I just throw everything (dipes & covers) into an open lined wicker basket in our laundy room. As long as I wash every other day it's just fine. I do spray prefolds with Bac Out, so that takes care of any potential smell.

I guess what I'm saying is, you probably don't need a pail. Wetbags are great, and easier to carry to the laundry room, too!

You probably don't NEED one...esp if you launder your dipes every other day or so...but I find that I like having one....mainly because a pail is sitting upright and it's just easier for me to toss the dipe into it rather than having to pick up a bag that's laying on the floor, open it and throw my dipe in. You could get a pail and put a liner inside it and then just throw the bag and the dipes all into the wash together...that would be easy and would keep your pail clean (I don't use a bag...I just clean my pail out when I empty it but I plan to get a bag soon)

Well the pail keeps in a little smell(like morning diaper ammonia smell!) but mostly it just keeps little fingers out. A wetbag on the floor probably wouldn't keep any little monsters away from the diapers. I know my kids need a pail to keep them out!

Nylon bag in a pail. Wash day comes and I put bag and dipes in wash. I have to use a pail, because of the nylon bag, but I don't see where you HAVE to if you have a wet bag. I just like the containment of the container.

I just keep my wet bag tied up on the floor in the bathroom in the baby's room. So far I haven't needed an actual pail.

A note about the bummis bags - make sure to wash them before you use them! I bought a large blue one that I tossed in with my dipes after I used it, and it turned a lot of my dipes, inserts, and covers blue.

I cd'd my twins without a pail (we had two xl bummis bags too), and it was fine, though not really ideal. The bummis bags do lose some of their waterproofness with time, and they would feel damp on the outside. And it was just more awkward to have a bag hanging somewhere than to have a pail. We got a pail for our foster baby and I really loved using it, and am planning to use it for our November babe as well. It is the Safety 1st Odorless Diaper Pail, and it's affordable, works great with the bummis wetbag as a liner, and really does work to keep things less stinky.

HTH!
