i'm trying to get ds used to being carried again, now that the big thrill of walking may be wearing off a bit. i have an ergo and MT. do your older kids prefer front or back carries?

My son prefers back carries so that he can see where we are going. With front carries he has to crank his neck around

**I** prefer back carries as 30lbs is a lot of weight to carry on the front! I can wear him for hours on my back but usually no more than a half an hour tops on the front.

Good luck getting your DS into BWing again!

IMO woven wraps and SSCs like Beco, Ergo, Tentoes Click, Angelpacks tie for first, followed closely by MTs. DS has gotten too heavy for me to carry in our BH MTat 30+lbs (the straps all dig in too much now), so I bought a Beco (haven't received it yet). I tried an Ergo but didn't like it as the body was too short- it only came halfway up DS's so he wasn't too comfortable and could lean WAY too much for my comfort. But the other SSCs are taller and all have their own merits...

But you all used all these abbreviations and I don't know what is what.

Can you help a newbie out and decode please???

MT= mei tai
APLX= Angel Pack LX (brand/model- MT with padded straps and buckles (SSC))
BWCC= back wrap cross carry (not 100% on the "w")
SSC= soft structured carrier
BH= babyhawk (brand of Mei Tai)

Did I miss any? It took me soooo long to sort out all the abbreviations when I started BWing

We waited too long in getting him back into a pack and our DS is a bear in the carrier now. When I do get him into one it is on the back so he can see everything going on and I can better distribute the weight.

A friend of mine suggested doing short bursts to get him back into the idea. That's been better. I've done a few shopping runs about 45 minutes long; one walk on a trail about an hour. That went much better than the 2 mile hike we tried to do first. As we get in it more he's not as squirmy or unhappy.

We also now have his hydration tube handy for him so he can amuse himself by drinking some water.

I used to always carry DS in a front carry in a mei tai, but then had to stop wearing him at a year old because it just got too difficult for me. I just got an Ergo though and manage fine with him in that in a back carry. He likes it too. I think he would be quite happy with either a front or back carry, but I could no way carry him on my front now - he's 26 months, 32lbs and tall for his age - and well, I'm not too tall for my age, lol.

My 20 mo dd has been on my hip in a sling or a pouch since she was able to (before that she was in a wrap too). But, she was getting too big for that when I was trying to get stuff done. I ended up with WAY too many bowls of guacamole flung across the kitchen while trying to get dinner ready with her on my hip

And, I was starting to get lots of shoulder fatigure. I realized I wasn't carrying her much anymore and I wanted to change that. I tried her on my back in my friend's beco and she liked it but I didn't like all the buckles on the beco. So, I just got a Kozy MT. The Kozy is made of canvas so can support a toddler a little better. I've only had it a few days but we both love it. She even fell asleep in it yesterday on my back! I didn't think I'd like the back carry and was resistant to it for a while - I'm so glad I tried it!
