Healthcare FSA

Hi there! These seemed like the most practical place to ask this question. If it's not, I apologize. We're wanting to hire a midwife, but were cash strapped at the moment. We do however have a Healthcare FSA that would be enough to pay a deposit, and the first couple of payments. Can we do this? Have any midwifes had success accepting the FSA card (we have a card we can use like a credit card) or have had clients get reimbursed through their FSA? I'm particularly interested in the success of using it for a deposit.

Thanks for your help!

I have an HSA and I have a pin for my HSA Debit card so I was able to withdraw money to pay my midwife. I kept all receipts for proof, just in case. I didn't spend a penny of my personal money for prenatals, birth pool, or the birth.

An FSA is different than an HSA. I don't know if the rules are different or not. However, if you determine by looking at your plan documents that using the funds for a midwife is a valid thing to do (if paying a doctor or an accupuncturist or a chiropractor or whatever is, it should be) - then I don't think the logistics of getting the money out should be insurmountable.

If your card works like a credit card, even if a MW hasn't done it before, it should be pretty easy for you to send her money with it through PayPal or something.
