My concern with the placenta is if it's over my c/s scar. I doubt it though because I would imagine I wouldn't be feeling much movement if it was.

I did get my 20 week US. But I'm not doing AFP, GD test, GBS test or anything else like that.

I will def have my ultra sound. I do want to know what
the baby will be so I can prepare.

I will opt out of the gest. diabetes test.

I did do the blood work and I'm glad I did because I
found out I was hypothyroid - post partum from my last
baby back in April. So I"m glad that I caught that one.

I'm not really that worried about the placenta, but since I *did* have spotting before, my OB wanted me to be aware that if I had it again, I should come in. I also exercise quite vigorously 4 times a week, so if I had seen spotting, I probably would have disregarded it - I'm rather laid back about that sort of thing. But knowing that it *could* be an issue will just make me more aware. FWIW, my placenta has never been like this before. But I'm sure it will be fine.

If I didn't say it in this thread, then also the possibility of a life-threatening genetic defect made me want to make sure everything was fine.

If your gut says to have the u/s, then go with it. And if your gut says no to, then don't! Guts are important to listen to.

My original plan was forego all screens, but my doc. found a significant septum in my uterus just before we conceived naturally. Prior to the BFP we were talking about minor surgery to remove the septate tissue... So we've had three ultrasounds so far - two to rule out any issues of growth restriction or placental abruption, and one anatomy sono (it's a girl!!

). If we did/do have any serious problems, it will be helpful to know if it's a result of the septum.

Other tests that yield results we cannot do anything about at the moment, we're opting out of. Thankfully our doc is fine with that. So, yes to sono, urine checks, bp, and regular weight checks; no to chromosome screens and diagnostics.

Just picking my battles I guess.

we don't opt out of all either, but there are good, considered reasons for the ones we do. I do have the 20w u/s b/c I had a cousin who was born w/ a complete diaphragmatic hernia (meaning it wasn't there). it was devastating for our family, and my grandmother said she thought her first baby died of the same thing (although no one knows for sure). So, I really ask only one question at that u/s "do you see a diaphragm?"

I agree w/ the mamas who said "only if it's going to change the management of the pregnancy." If our babe had a diaphragmatic hernia, we'd have the option of looking into medical interventions to try to correct the situation in utero. I don't however, do gestational diabetes, or GBS, instead opting to manage for risk factors (of which I have few). I have routine bloodwork since I'm prone to low iron.

a tip for the Rh- crowd. Get DP/DH to go donate blood...if he's negative, too, you won't need the shot! That's what we're doing. I figure that before I get poked this time, he'll have to get poked too!

there's my 2 cents...

I'm mostly opting out.....
I did some initial bloodwork, my MW reccomends it so that she can have that on file if we ever need to transfer to a hospital, she can show them I don't have any diseases or whatever and they can't force ABX on us. Also, I have a nagging feeling I'm anemic so I'd like to know that.
I'm not doing GD test, AFP or any of the chromisonal tests, or really, anything else. I might get a 20 week u/s IF my insurance will cover it. If they don't I'm not too upset about it. And my reasons for wanting one are totally petty in I want to know "boy or girl"

I had way too many tests with DD and all it did was make we a worry-wart! My MW does even make me do pee tests and I love it! I feel so much more relaxed this time around, I feel confident in my body to do its stuff naturally.

I'm skipping anything that's going to cost money, so those genetic tests are out. I've had one ultrasound and plan to have another at 20 weeks. Blood work still needs to be done but it's covered, and I'd like to make sure my blood sugar isn't all over the place. Aside from that...meh.

Trail... does this put you at increased risk for a breech presentation? I know some septums do. If so, have you thought about strategies to minimize this possibility and/or deliver a vaginal breech? Just curious, since that's what my first c/s was for.

Yes, good idea, unfortunately dh is +

I got the initial bloodwork (last pregnancy I had anemia and wanted to know where my iron was) and I had my u/s on Tuesday. Just one to check for multiples and or previa. No GD test (unless I am symptomatic), no quad screening/amnio etc.

I had the initial bloodwork panel, and I've had my midwife use the doppler to find the heartbeat at the last two appointments - but that's all we're going to do this time. I did a lot more testing with my first two (GBS, GD, 20 week ultrasound) but this is my third. That being said, I'm in a very different place, mentally, then I was 6 years ago - so I agree with the mama who said that it really depends on you personally. I also trust my midwife and if she felt I should have a test, or had a good reason for wanting me to do something, I would probably go with that - that's why I picked her!

Right now I'm trying to decide if I want to forgo the doppler at my visit next week. I can feel the baby moving, so I feel like everything is fine. If I feel a lot of movement the day of my appointment, I'll probably skip it and wait until we can use the fetalscope. Still mulling this one over!

The only tests my midwife does are urine tests. I ditched my CNM around 12 weeks and even though I'd like to have the 20 week ultrasound done, I cannot find anyone who will do it for me without me being a regular patient and having my prenatal care at their office, which I refuse to do. So I am trusting myself, my body, and my midwife. It is a change for sure, I'm still not completely comfortable with it, but I just have to trust that everything will be fine. I have no reasons to believe that it won't be-I've had two healthy children and two normal births, no history of preterm labor or other problems.

kltroy - yes, it does. My trusted doc has already told me that, although she has delivered breech babies vaginally, she'd hesitate to let me try, b/c a malformation is involved. I'm getting regular chiropractic care and staying as strong and healthy as possible to ease my mind for now. If she turns breech and stays there late in the game, I'm prepared to try moxibustion and/or acupressure.

Urine testing here.. NOTHING else.

I have refused all testing and even Rhogam for my last 3, this being 4, pregnancies.

Do not want it, do not feel the need for it, but of course, if there was a proven medical necessity for it, I would most defiantly entertain it.

However, I have to make a decision about prenatal rhogam. I'm Rh-. I've always gotten it, but am reconsidering this time. I need to do some more research on it. If I decide to get it, I'll get it around 28 weeks at the clinic. They typically do a normal prenatal at that time, too, but no testing unless I request it.
Ha, this sounds about like me. Except I am not doing the prenatal rhogam, just the one after birth.
No blood draws, no U/S. I did allow use of the doppler once, and I still feel bad about it.

ETA: I forgot that she does have me pee on a stick for protein, but I had protein with DS so that is important to me!
