Is benadryl addictive?

DS's allergist recommended twice daily doses of benadryl to get his eczema to calm down, while we were waiting for all the allergic proteins to leave his system. Last night was the first night in several weeks he didn't get any benadryl. He woke at 4:30 and wouldn't go back to sleep until 6:30 and was majorly cranky today. He cried a ton today took two naps as opposed to his usual one. Threw a fit if I set him down. He doesn't seem to be teething, so my next thought was that the benadryl was leaving his system and that he was withdrawing so to speak. Is it possible?

Gosh, I did a HUGE search on this issue this summer and although I did find a few anecdotal reports that YES it can be addictive, pretty much the consensus was no. Seems like the only/main issue it that kids get used to falling asleep w/it as a crutch; ie. similar to music or nursing or TV, etc.
I'll be curious to read what you learn.

I probl. even asked the same question here but don't recall much of a definitive answer.

Good luck!
