I went for my two weeks postpartum check up ,when i asked my ob about the failed vbac, she told me for some women the pelvis is narrow and makes the baby's head stuck on the ischial spine or the pubis symphysis and those women cannot deliver their baby vaginally.she told me that my ischial spine is narrow that got the baby to get stuck on it at -1 station.she also told me that in olden days when women with this problem died in labour and nowadays c/s helps as life saver for those women ..she also told me that it wasnt my fault for the pelvis to be narrow.i have a doubt that what is the average space between the ischial spines in normal woen and for those which is narrow..

No,i didn't take any x-ray.but during labour, she checked my cervix and found the baby's head is stuck between bones and we were able to find the mark on our baby's head after the birth..he had marks due to the pressure on the bones.

You can feel the ischial spines, you don't need an x-ray to tell you how far apart they are or whether they are prominent (or not). You can feel your own if you try it (and are flexible

). Inlet and outlet measurements are appoximations and sometimes when a sacrum is prominent you can feel it with a "deep" vaginal exam. No way to know if the measurements will be problematic or not until labor gets under way.

This is anecedotal, but I have a friend who has had homebirths.. she is pregnant with her 3rd now.. and I believe (and she does too), that she would have been sectioned with her first and second, in a hospital. She has a narrow pelvis..prominant ischial spines (the midwife said that she had not felt them that narrow in very many women). She pushed for a looong time and tried lots of different positions and the baby had a LOT of molding. There are lots of factors in getting the baby through.. I am sorry that you didn't get your vbac

Sometimes, women and babies did die..but with a really good mw or dr., sometimes you are able to squeeze a fit..sometimes even with good care, you can't..due to maposition, etc.. sometimes these things happen and we never know why.
