I have an opened bottle of commercial Kefir in the fridge. It's expiration date is 12/11/09. I want to use it in a recipe to replace buttermilk (that I don't have right now either, ha)... Smells fine, tastes fine. Toss it or use it? Thanks

I'd totally use it. BTW, if you're interested in kefir grains, pm me! I've just started culturing them less than 2 wks ago, but once they grow enough I'll gladly split them!

It's probably fine as long as it tastes and smells all right. I've had one open in my fridge for nearly two weeks now because I soak my daughter's oatmeal every morning and only use a tablespoon.... I smell it every time but I figure it's fine...
