That's what Nadia just told me. She stopped nursing and said she's a big girl now and all done nursing.

I hope she forgets that soon and nurses again today. She just turned 3. I was thinking I'd be nursing her for at least another 6 months, if not a year or more.

Ohhh! That brought tears to my eyes .... What an amazing, yet heartbreaking, way to express her desire to wean. As if it is not 'her' but her mouth that is too big.

She is trying to protect your feelings and the intimacy of your bond.

She's very perceptive. She's been especially fidgety while nursing lately and it annoys me to no end. When I try to hold her hand or redirect her or put something in her hand, she gets mad. It's like she NEEEEEEEDS to dig in my belly button or poke my eyes out. She has even experimented with hitting me to make me let her do it. This might be a battle of wills here. Either I let her poke my eyes out or she'll just give up nursing

Nadia, since you're only 3, I really don't think your mouth is too big to still be breastfeeding!!. I really believe your mouth will be just the right fit to nurse on your mommy's breast!!. After all, Your mommy is only offering you the very best milk in the whole world... Breast Milk!!. No 3 year old is too big to still be nursing; Nadia, your only job is to just accept the milk your mom is giving you
find yourself a comfortable nursing position and just start breastfeeding!!.
( Just be careful not to bite your mom while your breastfeeding; OUCH!)

You know, that was my DD's theory when she weaned as well.

She was 50 months and simply couldn't get anything out. She saw DS nursing so she hypothesized that her mouth was too big. She did go on to try to nurse again over the next 15 months, but never "really" nursed again once she had decided that.

She already doesn't nurse more than 5 minutes at a time. For a period there, she was nursing more than the baby and it was stressing me out. Then I felt bad always asking her to wait. But now she doesn't need it so much and is only nursing 2-3 times a day.

Yesterday, she poked my eye by mistake and pinched her chest and offered to put "milk" in my eye for me.

Who are you and why are you posting at MDC? A brief intro in "Pleased to Meet You" would be very nice, considering that all of your posts here are about supporting extended breastfeeding. Are you a father? How have you come to be so interested in extended breastfeeding?
