natural help for enterovirus?

my 15 mo ds has sores inside his mouth that have been diagnosed as enterovirus...dr. advised doing nothing other than MAYBE fever-lowering medications if necessary, but what concerns me is the pain he seems to be feeling from the sores...they are getting worse, and even nursing is uncomfortable for him. I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations...my Dr. SEars books recommends benadryl to calm him, but I'm afraid that if I do that I'll mistake his benadryl stupor for a fever-induced lethargy (also, this is one time I'm not sure I agree with Dr. Sears, I don't want to give him drugs just to calm him, if it isn't going to alleviate the pain at all...plus he isn't very fussy - yet)
thanks very much for any help you can offer

Since it's a virus, the fever is one of the things that kills it off. Do not use Tylenol/Advil b/c that completely defeats the purpose and short circuits natural body healing.

Lots of probiotics, vitamin A: the natural form from Cod liver oil, and high dose vitamin C, as for any virus. No sugar.

For polio, which is also an enterovirus, MT has recommended mineral supplements I think....
