new oven/range recommendations

We're shopping for a new freestanding, electric, flat top kitchen range but I just don't understand why some cost so much more than others. They all sort of look the same to me. Originally we were looking at spending around $600 for one but the huge store where we buy all our furniture is having 30 mo. no interest sale (this is how we've gotten our big ticket items like sofa and tv armoire) and I'm wondering if it's necessary to spend more.

So like if I buy a $600 GE, is the $1200 one gonna be that much better? Will my food suddenly taste more awesome than before? Oh, and will a more expensive one be more or less energy efficient?

I don't know that a $1200 stove cooks better than a $600 stove, but it may have some features you need such as a warming drawer, convection oven, ect. that may make it worth it to spend more on a particular model. You also need to look at burner size and if they are adjustable (mine has 2 burners that can be used smaller or larger depending on the pot size). I'd go in with a list of features I needed, a few features I thought I'd use, and price from there

I doubt I'd get the top of the line one just b/c of the no interest thing, ti's still going to cost you twice as much, KWIM? Buy what you *need*

Have fun shopping!

well, we ended up "needing" the $1100 model

We cook quite a bit and after comparing between all the brands decided that was the one for us. It has a convection oven so that's cool. They told me manufacturers don't provide energy ratings on ranges because they use up so much energy anyway.

I'm sure we'll be able to pay it off soon. We prefer to pay stuff off as soon as we can so we don't have to worry about it. I have to wait 3 weeks for it though. Gives us time to sell of the one we have.
