My son is just starting at a new school which does morning drop-off in the parking lot. Parents drive up and through a turn around, pull up to the bottom of a flight of stairs, and a staff member is waiting to let them out. I have been unbuckling my son's seat straps as the staff member opens the door.
however, it seems like most of the other kids are loose in the car while the car is still moving through the line. The line moves extremely slowly, as it is stop and go and you are only moving up one (or two) car lengths at a time.
Many of the loose kids are standing on the passenger side front seat, or are sitting in the driver's lap.
this is not something we will *ever* do in our family, since it sends a mixed message and contradicts our rule that when the car is moving, the seatbelts are buckled.
But, is it something that is dangerous enough that I should collect some research and do a PSA to the head of the school? The driveway is pretty narrow, and I would think that if it is icy or slippery, a fender bender is not impossible.
If it is as dangerous as I suspect, can someone post some documentation?
thanks!!
