I saw this (or something similar) at Joanns last time I was there. I was intrigued, but not enough to spend the $3-$4 a can it cost to try. I'd love to hear if it works!

 

So can you use this on prefolds, or will it make them less absorbant? I would like to have some solid color ones.

You could probably just use it on the outside and then absorbency won't be an issue. Though it seems you'd need a ton to make a really solid color, dye might be better for that type of thing.

These are acrylic type fabric paints, which isn't necessarily bad but can prevent the fabric from absorbing liquids as well as without it. Paints sit on top of the fabric and fills in spaces between fibers where as a fiber reactive dye becomes part of the fabric(picture a radish vs. a beet).

I use watered down acrylic paints(Liquidex) to do larger tapestries. These paints become "permanent" when heat set, but I don't use them on things that need to be washed frequenly because they do fade.

Nope, its paint. But you can spray on dyes too. I have yet to do it but the spray nozzle attachments I have that fit onto my squeeze bottles attest to the fact that at some point I had the inclination too :LOL

Though I don't think I would use spray on dye(or this other stuff) to do tie-dye as you wouldn't get good coverage in your folds or if you had more than one layer to go through. Probably better for accent effects and such.

Also, wear a mask when working with anything you are spraying as the paint/dye particles are suspended in the air and you breathe them in.

I used a similar product that was dye and it worked well (and was absorbant). It was in a pump thoguh not aresol. It worked great but for enough dye to do one onsie it was $3.

what it was great for was easy batik. Stamp on designs with school glue. spray on dye according to instructions. wash out glue once dye is set..

 

I wonder if you can use this on white Fuzzi Bunz?? What do you all think?
