VBAC vs. a normal vaginal birth

Does it hurt worse? I mean, can you feel the scar while contracting and pushing the baby out? Does it feel about the same as a normal labor and delivery? I just want to know what to be prepared for. I'm not looking forward to it at all.

no, it doesn't feel any different. Why are you dreading it? It's a lot better than a c-section, IMO! I'm going to be having my second vbac in the next few weeks and I am looking forward to it

I'm going to be honest.....

I had a c-section for my first.
I had a very wonderful VBAC with my second. (nml pain)
I had a very PAINFUL VBAC with my third (adhesions from my scar tearing)
I had a very wonderful VBAC with my fourth. (nml pain)

During the pregnancy with my fourth and this current pregnancy (with my fifth) I've had adhesions tear throughout the pregnancy.

Mostly, because of lack of support with my doctor and the L&D staff. Otherwise, I'd been gung ho about it, going without pain meds and everything. Just having the usual mixed feelings, I guess.

I'm curious, how do you know they are tearing? What does it feel like and is that dangerous? I'm ignorant to this stuff, as you can tell.

That makes sense. Maybe with each contraction, I can build some sort of pain tolerance. That is what I am hoping for because I am a weenie when it comes to pain. I'll probably be praying most of the time, so that should help.

I'm for it, as long as I have a hospital nearby, but my husband won't even consider letting me have one this late in the game. I'm lucky he supports me in refusing the induction.

I'm just going to try and labor at home as much as possible. I'm hoping to not really be able to tell I am in true labor until its about time to push lol. Wishful thinking, right?

No, not if you wait til ctx are 2-3 min apart, 60-90 sec long, before you go to hospital.. that should put you at about 6-8 cm or so, and ready for transition, what do you think about that?

I did Hypnobabies for my VBAC and it was very easy. I didn't even realize I was in labor (because I had never experienced it before b/c of scheduled c-section for breech) until contractions were 3 minutes apart. I had a 2 hour ride to the hospital and listened to Hypnobabies. Everything was very manageable. by the time I got to the hospital, there was no doubt I was in labor, but still very manageable. I was 8cm dilated. 2 hours later, I was complete and my water broke. Baby was out less than 30 minutes later. I used the Pushing track and did not feel anything during the crowning.

I had no pain meds, just used Hypnobabies and a doula and it was awesome. I totally recommend a doula, especially for a hospital birth. If I have a third, I will definitely still have a doula.

Hmmm, you know, you have a point. I just hope that I can tolerate the contractions enough so as not to look obvious to my husband when I am in labor.

I don't know. I'm talking to a doula right now, so hopefully something can be worked out. At least he is wiling to compromise a little bit.

I didn't feel any abnormal scar pain.

I didn't feel myself tearing. I just remember thinking, "I just need to push through this and then it's all over" when my baby was crowing. I had 1st degree tear on my perineum which was no big deal but I had a 2nd degree tear that entended inside my vaginal wall. My midwife (who has been doing this for a good 20 years or more) actually told me that she never saw a tear like that. Getting it stitched up was NOT fun. I remember jumping around a lot because the area was so sensitive. But, honestly, it was just a couple minutes! (as opposed to days a pain following a c-section).
