What defines a "newborn" in this study?

I was reading this article about how pain causes there to be more free radicals in newborns which can potentially cause brain damage (http://www.edmontonjournal.com/healt...300/story.html). I was just wondering if 2-3 weeks old is still considered a newborn in this study? After all, isn't that when circumcision is usually performed?

Does anyone know if there have been any similar studies done but with circumcision as the test, rather than basic tests?

Circumcisions are usually performed at 2-3 days not weeks in the US. I know in Canada it is more often done in doctors offices or later as an outpatient because a lot of hospitals have stopped performing them in their maternity wards. I can see how that would lead to them being done later.

That's an interesting study. I can't speak for them, but I would define a newborn as a child between 0-1 month of age.
