So, now that so many people are in the search for a diaper bag, I would like to know what you pack in your bag. I think I have been way overpacking sometimes.... So please, tell me your set up for your diaper bag and how old your dc is.

I have three kids and use a backpack.
In front: wallet, pen, arnica gel, chapstick, arnica tabs, teething tabs, chamomilla, rescue remedy, bandaids, owie ointment, keys, a small toy for amelie, a few crayons, a piece of paper, a lizard toy for nadia, a lego pirate for skanda, nailclippers, a brush.

In the middle: 3 diapers for Amelie and 1 cover. A travel size pack of wipes. 1 toddler size diaper in case someone pees in their car seat. 2 plastic bags. 1 for soiled diapers, 1 for pee accident clothes. 1 big kid diaper in case I'm out late and I know someone will fall asleep for the night on the drive home (I put it on before we leave for home).

In the back: A spare outfit that doesn't take up much space for each kid. Something like a onsie for Mei Mei, leggings for Nadia, shorts for Skanda. Empty sippy cups (I keep my water bottle on the side of the bag and put water in their cups as needed). A snack of some sort like dry cereal or a Luna bar.

depends on if I'm day trippin or going overnight, but I typically have for the 13 mo old for outings-2-4 clean diapers, one-two extra cover(s), a container of wipes (about 10-15), a dirty diaper bag, and a change of clothes/extra shirt, changing pad, sling or pouch (or both), sun hat, sunscreen, and bum cream. Winter outings I'd have socks/booties/pants ect instead of hat and sunscreen, lol. I like to have and not need rather than need and not have. The other two are old enough that I just need little snacks, drink cups and maybe little toys or books for them in the bag.
Image
I also like room in the bag for my keys, sunglasses, wallet, and that stupid cell phone that I never use. I think that's about it. Maybe I should go look and see what's in there right now, lol.

I almost always pack the mutt aios, the fit both boys so it makes it easy to just grap some and go.
The rest:
sippy cup
wallet
phone
camera
binky
pf for cleanups
changing pad
butt wipes
bottle of water for me and to wipe butts, faces and hands
purell sanitizer wipes
colorless marker and sm. pad of wonder paper
pen and notepad
wetbag
cup of fingerfoods
sunscreen

stuff that windups in the bag: crushed cookies, used tissues, sour milk pools, matchbox cars, legos....

we use a tote bag style (the LL Bean boat & tote) It usually contains:

2 fitteds
extra cover
wet bag
hard plastic wipes case (the thin Huggies one)
changing pad
a few small books
a little container of snacks
extra outfit
maybe a few finger puppets or animals

If we are going to the park it also contains
a hat
sinscreen
juice box or sippy
small blanket

Depends on how long we're going to be gone and where we're going. If it's several errands (the mall, Target, etc), I take my Loom Marsupial, LL Bean Diaper Bag or Fleurville Sling Tote with:

4 dipes (usually small VB AIOs or sposies
Image
Image

Wipe case/wipes
dirty diaper/wet clothes bag (Bumkins wetbag)
extra outfit for baby
hat for baby
wallet/checkbook/pen
cell phone
bottle of water for me
antibacterial hand wipes
changing pad
pf for when the baby throws up
extra panties or a pull up for the 2.5yo
small snacks for the 5 and 2.5yo
Hotsling
the girls also have sippys full of water, but not usually in the bag

If we're just running to one store, I'll take the LE Little Tripper with:
one dipe
wipes case/wipes
extra onesie for the baby
antibacterial hand wipes

And I'm always carrying my 2.5yo huge blankie around
Image
: I don't mind her having a blankie, but wish she hadn't picked the largest blanket we own to become attached to *sigh*

I am definitely a diaper bag overpacker
Image
: I think it's b/c one time I left the house for a quick run to the bank w/o the diaper bag, got into a car accident, and had NO diapers for DS for almost 3 hrs. (luckily he was in a pf and wool and it held
Image
) I keep all 6 of our VB AIOs in the bag at ALL times and add more dipes if we're going to be out longer. So on a typical outting, the diaper bag contains for 15mo DS:

Main pocket:
6 VB AIOs
extra outfit
Kozy
plastic bag for dirties
wipes container w/ handful of cloth wipes
sun hat

Second pocket:
sunscreen
antibacterial handgel
hand cream for me
wallet
cell phone
lansinoh
snacks for DS (granola bar/ grahm crackers/ etc)
keys

Small top front pocket:
chapstick
Motts Organic Applesauce snack pack
spoon
pen

Small bottom front pocket: misc toys for DS

Side pockets: sippy cup of water for DS, bottle of water for me

I think that's it. Our diaper bag is a backpack we got from Costco. We have quite a bit of extra space in it, but babe #2 will be here in a few months to take up the space

I like the idea of having some homeopathic rememdies w/ us in case of injury

Monkey Sudz diaper balm tube
California Baby sunblock/bug repellant
comb and extra hair ties
sippy cup of ice water
a couple baggies of snacks
my wallet, cell phone, keys, chapstick
a couple of books for dd
bottle of water for me

We use a backpack. In it we put:
-food (never ever go out without a snack for DS--crackers, rice cakes, almonds are common ones)
-2 stuffed FB or fitteds if he is wearing wool
-cloth wipes
-sunscreen
-hat
-bib
-spare outfit--I purposely pick something that doesn'ttake up too much space
-sippy
-water bottle 4 hydration and wipe wetting
(these last 2 go in the outside pockets)

optional:
-prefold for changing pad
-baby eating utensils
-california diaper spray
-gel baby oil (good for when his butt is sore and he doesn't like wiping)
-powder (like this for when I can't really give him an airing out-put it on diaper, not him)
-book
-toy
-plastic bag for wet/soiled dipes

Okay this last item shouldn't be optional, but I forget about this all the time. If we are out with the stroller I fold up the diaper really tight and put it in the bottom basket. In the car I put it in the trunk. Also, if it's a FB I can often get away with wrapping it up tight and stowing it in the diaper bag. For some reason my DS doesn't seem to poop near as much when we're out as he does at home, so this makes it much less of a big deal when I forget a wet bag.

edit: when we are going to be gone awhile I put the diapers in one of the string bags we use for shopping. This way I am not taking up all the space in the diaper bag with diapers.

YOu guys make me feel bad about not keeping much stuff in my bag. Like sunscreen and hats.... I live in the south and we just stay out of the sun if we can help it, I guess. :LOL If it's an event where we're going to need it, then I bring it.
I used to be very scattered about packing a diaper bag. Especially when I had 2 in diapers. Then I realized that I just need to remember the in's and the out's. food and diapers. The rest tends to take care of itself. But the most important things are the in's and the out's. This is referring to food/drink (in) and diapers (out).
Most of my trips never involve more than one diaper change so I just bring one cloth and then keep my just in case sposies for random emergencies.

But normally I have the out's: 1 cloth diaper, 2 sposies (just in case), wipes, change of clothes, plastic grociery sacks, antibacterial hand gel. And the in's: snacks, and sippy cup, and my boobs. Oh wait, they don't go in the bag. :LOL

Right now: (for two kids)
*For the cd'd
2 prefolds
a snappi
2 doublers
1 KP cover
1 wet bag
*For the PT'd
a pair of spiderman undies
a 'Feel & Learn' dipe (he wasn't cloth diapered)

sunblock stick
Image

wipes
Benadryl/Tylenol/Advil (for mom)
binkies
Burts Bees diaper ointment
table toppers
chapstick
.. and usually two cups

#18 ·
Normally - My wallet, cellphone & makeup bag. 4-5 dipes (usually 3 pfs and 2 fb's), wipes, snack for my older son, formula bottle in insulated pouch or small container of formula powder & an empty bottle, snappi, extra pullon cover, a few pencils & blank paper, a few onesies, my car keys, extra paci, wetbag or plastic grocery sack.

Right now - all that minus the cd's. I'm using sposies while I figure out how to grow my stash for my growing boy. Even so, the cd's didn't take up much more space.

These days I pack 5 true AIOs with some wipes and a change of clothes into a little backpack I bought for the buggle to carry with him when he goes out with his dad, or gets picked up by his grandparents, etc.... and he loves carrying it around so much that I guess I'll do the same when I'm taking him out on my own again after the baby's born.

I have no idea what will be in my bag when I've got two.

WOW! Y'all pack a lot of stuff! :LOL

I keep a (Ergo tote) bag in my van hung from the back of the seat with:
2 Elbees
1 wool cover (usually Luxe or Kiwi Pie)
thin travel size Huggies wipes case with several wet cloth wipes
bum cream from Jack's Magic Beanstalk
small Bummis tote wet bag

I keep a Land's End Little Tripper bag stocked with:
the same
+ a onesie or T-shirt
and take it with me if I'm going into a restaurant or park or something.

My DD is 30 months old, though. I carried way more when she was younger.
And everything but the kitchen sink when I had 2 babies in cloth diapers! :LOL

Oh...I don't do changing mats...after 5 babies I've gotten really good at squatting, laying them across my lap & changing them! And I carry my wallet, keys, lipbalm, pen & cellphone in my own purse.

I'm a minimalist --
1 Daisy Doodle
3 wipes
wallet
cell phone
change
some kind of dried fruit rolling around in the bottom... gosh. I hope that's dried fruit.

(I keep more supplies in my car in case I need something else OR I pack more for longer trips)

#24 ·
We almost always have a solar veil ring sling in there too. I think this is a really good sling for the diaper bag because it takes up hardly any space. Plus if you need a sun shade you've got one.

I am pregnant right now and have become much more of a sling user (had been using it a lot less before I got pregnant) because it seems a lot harder to hold him in my arms than it was before even for little trips like from the car through a parking lot to where we are going. I have this fear of him getting run over in a parking lot, so I really like to hold him.

I also throw my knitting in there too. So I guess I forgot 2 things!

my boobs. Oh wait, they don't go in the bag
Very funny!

Spark, I'm like you, minus the hope-it's-dried-fruit.

2 AIOs (Daisy Doodles are my favorite for this)
1 dress
3 sposies (they're so darn compact)
10 wipes (RB doo rags, because the size is perfect)

in the Juji handbag from Cottonbabies. The wet bag is built-in. If necessary, I'll add a bib or a hat, or my cellphone/wallet/car keys. In theory this is the "short trips only" diaper bag but I like it so much better than the big one that I use it for day trips anyway.

I'm a minimalist!

This is what I pack for a trip 2-3 hours or less, if I'm going out all day it's different and I take a hugh backpack full of stuff.

diaper changing pad
sippy cup for the 2 younger ones, water bottle for oldest and water bottle for me
travel pack of wipes with a few washclothes (dry) in it
snack for baby
1 board book or toy for baby (she is 21 months)
wet bag
1 extra diaper
wallet and cell phone

If I'm taking the backpack
extra outfit for all 3 kids (something always happens if we are gone more than 2-3 hours!)
snacks
about 3-4 diapers and extra covers if I don't pack aios
toys/books
water bottles
wipes
changing pad
wetbag
medicine (gas drops or mylanta, youngest has awful reflux sometimes!)
wallet and cell phone
my wrap or pouch sling

I used to way overpack when the babe was younger but now I don't need as much. Mind you this is also if I can keep my self together, there are some times I wing it and just grab wallet, cell phone, kids and sippy cups and work out the rest later :LOL.
