When they are little, I say go for it. I did say location matters as some people have bad intentions in the world but in nature (lakes, streams, ocean), amount trusted friend/family, or at a private pool go for it. Once they are old enough to make own decisions, I think its about their comfort level. Meaning if they just strip down and its an safe space we allow them to do it until they say otherwise.

As a parent, I still enjoy skinny dipping (as long as the water is warm). My girlfriends and I just this weekend hot tubbed in the nude and it was so much fun.

 

No problem at our house, we've had an above ground pool out in the country when they were growing up and no one in site anyway. We've never been that uptight about nudity around the house anyway. For a while in her late teens and early twenties our daughter liked to lay out topless and no one was ever bothered by it.

 

It used to make my inlaws so uptight and judgmental when we the kiddos would skinny dip in front of them and I'm talking about when they were really young.

 

I think it has more to do with their levels of being uncomfortable with their bodies. My husband says his parents were very formal with their bodies and coverings.

 

We always allowed them to strip down or sometimes we did it for them when super young and they NEEDED to be in water and we didnt have a change of cloths. Now that they are older, its child driven at the right safe locations.

We have a very old family cabin built in the 1930s with no running water. We have a stream that has a nice swimming hold outside of it and we often bath/skinny dip in it--parents included.

 

Here's a related, but different question:

If you're skinny dipping and have to pee... obviously, if you're at a house, go inside.

But what about if it's in nature? Just swim a ways away and pee? Go onto land and find a private area?

 

My two younger children will go right in the water but my oldest hates the sensation of peeing in the water for some reason and insists on peeing off to the side.

 

Yeah I think the hose is to wash off the blood from catching and cleaning large fish (hence me being a vegetarian).

 

If we are camping and in the water I make sure nobody too close down stream is getting water for cooking or cleaning

 

Nobody at a nude beach is the "peeing police' in the water.

 

And it’s not a big deal

 

In open water they just pee with or without a bathing suit. Peeing was never a problem.
My boys don't like getting seen with erections so they hide it under water tall gone.

well, as a single mom of 3 young boys, I thinks it is just fine

 

We have a hot tub that we rarely use suits for. I cannot imagine dealing with wet suits almost daily around the house.

 

Yes, bathing suits are all good , but my boys like to go in their birthday suits! 😂 boys will be boys,

 

I should also clarify to my comment above. So much of this response is based on safety--physically, emotionally, and sexually. Having conversations from and early age of healthy boundaries, the body, consent, etc.

 

Yes this is so important. A body is just a body to society or someone makes it sexual. We need to embrace our bodies and not overly sexualize them.

 

If everyone is ok with it, I say go for it. I will say most importantly is the emotional and physical saftey. No pictures! We teach consent (for skinny dipping too), no staring (normalizing the body), and just having fun. So I'm not opposed to jumping in either with the family.

 

My kids skinny dip at home and at the beach when we go to a clothing optional Beach. They find it more comfortable than having a wet swim suit on.

 

My kids have done skinny dipping at home and when camping in remote locations but never at the beach. I didnt even know they had clothing optional beaches. Are you from europe?

 

I don't mind at all if my daughters bathe naked, also because there is no other way for them to do it, they always bathe naked both in our swimming pool and in the sea

 

I have no problem if my 10 and 8 year old daughters bathe naked, they just do it like that wherever they are, both in our pool and in other places like the sea or the river.
