My cat Fiona is obsessed with plastic. Steals it when my back is turned and chews/licks it (You know those plastic seals that go on the DEAN dip container? She goes CRAZY for those). My Aunt Von's cat Sophie licks plastic bags too - ALL NIGHT LONG (OMG it is annoying! And from what I understand, not good for them.).

I heard a rumor that the plastic has some sort of oils/chemicals in it that they are attracted to that can make them sick if they have too much? I have not found any information on it though, so don't hold me to it. I'll see if I can do some digging around. I let you know if I find anything.

 

I've read (although I don't know where now) that they use a fish based oil on the bags so they don't get all staticky and stick together

 

one of my cats does the same thing while the other cat is more focused on attacking the plastic bag while the other one is inside licking it

 

One of my cats LOVES plastic, too. It's weird.

 

I have a plastic licker too. It's quite funny.

 

I have a plastic licker. That's her nickname at times. I do my best to keep all plastic bags away from her. Seems to mostly be grocery bags. It used to just be the noise I couldn't stand. Then I realized the chemicals in the plastic could harm her, plus plastic bags are just never a good thing to have laying around with pets or kids.

 

I thought it was just our wacky cat that did this!

There's a definite preference for the grocery bags and it's so annoying.

Out of my 7 cats, only 1 does this. She is a goofball. She knows she shouldn't do it and will keep licking furiously while keeping one eye on me until I physically move her or the bag.

 

I've heard that some plastics have a coating which biochemically mimic fat.

 

Our cat does this when she can. We call her the Dirty Bag Licker...

My kitty Minu licks my plastic drawer scrapbook container! It drives me nuts! We often call her 'plastic licker'

She likes other plastic containers too, only the clear ones.

 

I have a cat that likes to eat photographs and rubber or foam rubber. He also goes crazy for the smell of bleach. Don't worry, I don't 'let' him get into any of it. Crazy cat...

 

My cat isn't into plastic but she loves junk mail. Once we open the envelopes she goes nuts licking the glue.

: I know it can't be good for her so years ago we stopped opening the mail in front of her.

I have a glue licker too. And 2 that eat toilet paper or tissues. I've seen them lick photos as well. I always thought it was because it was a picture of me and they love me so much...

 

Nicky, my cat who passed, was shown to a grand then a little bit past that...and he LOVED rosettes. We'd bring them home toss them on a table and he'd spend half and hour licking them. So in reality he probably was the only showcat out there who actually "got something" out of getting rosettes...

 

My cat eats masking tape. It is difficult because ds loves tape, but he learning to keep it put away.

We had a cat that would lick photos when I was a kid. I've never heard of this from anyone else! She wouldn't chew them, she'd just lick the finish off of the front, ruining the photo of course. As long as we remembered to leave any photos face down she'd leave them alone.

 

My cat will lick pictures if I let her.

 

I know that gelatin is used in processing photos. Digital prints don't have it.

Also most glue has animal products in it too so no wonder they go nutso over them

My cat Gabriel is a picture licker. He has ruined some good pictures.
