Do you think this would work?

I bought a wool sweater some months ago, with the intention of making it into a butt sweater, but then my sewing machine died.
My DH was looking at it the other day and he suggested cutting it into an insert instead!!! (he must be listening to me when i tout wools abilities

Not exactly. The goal of wool isn't to absorb the basic pee, although it can handle the overload of a diaper. Now, putting a wool liner in the pocket between the diaper/absorbing part and the outer PUL can help whatever absorbing part you have work better.

(hopefully thats not just Fri afternoon burnout rambling confusing you

Okay, first you'll want to put the sweater in the washing machine and wash it like you would your diapers two or three times. Otherwise it's gonna shrink on you a LOT, and your inserts will end up looking like maxi-pads instead. (Go ahead, ask me how I know

Then, when you cut them out, make them a bit bigger than your cotton or hemp inserts. You'll use the wool in between the PUL of the pocket diaper, and the cotton or hemp insert you usually use.
The wool really does boost the absorbency, and will absorb enough that it will feel very wet, and will want to be washed with the rest of the diapers. The trick is to have the cotton or hemp (both being FAST absorbers) as the first layer, and the wool (a GRADUAL absorber) as the second - the cotton sucks it all in quick so nothing drips out, and the wool pulls it from the cotton & distributes it evenly.
