So, my heartburn has been pretty terrible and I heard about drinking apple cider vinegar. I tried it two nights in a row and had great success. However, the morning after the second night I noticed that it was really tough to swallow my protein shake. My throat does not hurt, it just seems like my throat has forgotten how to swallow and now does not swallow effectively. I have to swallow the same bite like three or four times. I read that this might be because of scar tissue in my throat from gerd.

This is terrible! I do not enjoy eating anymore at all and I am afraid I might choke on something when my husband is not here and I will get into trouble. This is the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me while being pregnant.

Has anyone else had this? What can I do?

I am going to try taking zantac and hope for the best. The only other things I have tried are tums and of course, the vinegar.

Thankfully I don't have much trouble with heartburn (in general, but even while PG) but when I do have it I find it's often due to not drinking enough water. Make sure you're drinking enough.

But an apple or some celery will help. They neutralize the acids. I could never bring myself to drink ACV...seemed nasty to me...and typically I don't mind the apple anyway.

I really hope that you feel better soon. Eating is important!

I suffered needlessly my last pregnancy with severe heartburn & reflux. Even water gave me heartburn! I dont like to take any medications even the ones that are deemed safe for pregnancy. AFter I nearly choked to death one night from reflux While sleeping I decided to take pepcid - it worked for the heartburn but not the reflux so much so my OB talked me into a prescription of P.rotonix which is basically Prevacid. I felt like a new person & the rest of my pregnancy was a joy. I felt stupid for not taking it sooner.

Thank you for the replies, ladies!

I will give Prevacid a try. This reflux is really killing me.

Once again, thank you! I am not sure what I would do without this board!

I had luck with raw almonds. I never went anywhere with out some stuck in my teeth! They are buggers to get out of your gums.

Plus it will add to your protein count!

Sorry to hear about your heartburn! I switched from Tums to Mylanta tablets, which contain calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide; I found the Mylanta tabs to be a lot more effective than Tums. Unfortunately, I didn't find the apple cider vinegar or any other natural treatment to be as effective.
